Does This Texas Legislator Think the Colorado Abortion Clinic Shootings Were Justified?

As horrified Americans learned about the mass shooting at an abortion clinic in Colorado on Friday, Texas state Rep. Matt Shaheen, R-Plano, retweeted the following post from an anti-abortion activist:

“You want ‘safe spaces’? Sure thing, start by making the womb one. #tcot #PlannedParenthood”

A gunman shot to death three people and wounded nine others at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs. As this post is written, police say they don’t know the motive for the shootings. MSNBC reports that Colorado abortion clinics have been under intense political pressure from anti-abortion activists.

Does Rep. Shaheen not know that about 25% of pregnancies end by natural miscarriage? So God himself has not created a ‘safe space’ in the womb for the unborn. Women should make their own choices about their own bodies!

    Hi Kristine,

That guy was certainly out of line and totally cold hearted for what he said.

However it is not hatred of women or any of that. Some people do believe it is morally reprehensible. I happen to be an evangelical and believe it is an act of rebellion against God.

That said, I don’t go to abortion clinics, shout derisive words or incite people. I believe men and women are agents of will and they can make their own choices. I wish they wouldn’t abort but that is between them and their own heart.

Read your Bible closely, it is friendlier towards women than any other religion especially Islam.

Conservatives cheering the killing of a policeman!
    Total insanity.

I am never surprised to read stories like these are from Texas. This state has become a joke to the entire Country and the World. I keep wondering when these so called “christians” will see how their behavior is identical to the monster’s I call Daesh. Both groups want the same things, control over the masses in regard to religious choice, control over women and their bodies, control over society using their religious laws to kill citizens etc, etc. Their hate knows no bounds.

Great — another TX politician shows the nation (if not the world) how “Christian”-fueled ideology can inspire hateful violent imagery.
Memo to Rep. Shaheen: One thing YOU can do to make “the womb” a safe place is to ensure ALL TX women have full access to birth control and abortion care (which, by the way, is LEGAL!). Yes, that would make the wombs of women without access to legal medical abortions safe from dangerous self-performed abortions which is a big problem right here in good ol’ Texas….or haven’t you been keeping up with the news?

This act was a violent statement of hatred towards women. Planned Parenthood, in itself, represents choice and freedom. Without choice you have no freedoms. These conservative men and evangelicals, want control of women which is pretty widely accepted. What is not accepted is a politician openly condoning such violent hatred.
