Steven Hotze Hatesplains the Law

Where to begin with Steven Hotze? The Houstonian and head of Conservative Republicans of Texas last made headlines a few weeks ago when he brought Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore to the Texas Capitol for a rally in defense of this state’s ban on same-sex marriage.

Hotze was back in Austin on Wednesday to appear before the Texas House Committee on State Affairs to speak in support of House Bill 4105 by state Rep. Cecil Bell, R-Magnolia. HB 4105 would prohibit state or local funds from being used to issue a same-sex marriage license or acknowledge a same-sex marriage in any other way — regardless of whether the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down the ban on those unions in Texas.

During his testimony, Hotze, one of the most vicious anti-gay activists in all of Texas, got into a lengthy exchange with state Rep. Sylvester Turner, D-Houston. Just in the four-minute clip you can hear above, Hotze:

  • Portrays the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples as morally equivalent to the Nazi’s mass murder of Jews
  • Argues that Texans should actively subvert any U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage
  • And, for the extremist cherry on top, equates gay people to alcoholics, murderers, adulterers, perverts, pornographers, rapists and embezzlers. In that order.

Whenever I hear one of these sanctimonious bigots invoke the Bible “whenever I see a law” I think two things.

One, no you don’t. You only play the Bible card to escape criticism for your abject bigotry.

Two, I replace “Bible” with “Harry Potter” and it makes just as much sense. I mean, what would Dumbledor do?

  • Amazed says:

The Bible equates them with all those and is prima facia evidence of man’s total rebellion against God and His natural laws.

    • Red Mann says:

Who’s god is that? What natural laws? What evidence do you have to show the reality of this god and why all should have to follow your beliefs? In any case any religious belief is irrelevant to US law.

  • Rhonda says:

Steve Hotze is nothing more than another old, white, bigot. This state and this Country will be so much better once people like him die off. Hopefully his spawn, if he has any, will think differently and not be what he is, a BIGOT!

  • I wonder how many millennia it is going to take people like him to disappear from the planet.
The first thing he said was look in the bible. Excuse me, but once again I’ve got to point out that this is not a religious country, it is secular and I will be damned if I will permit hate spewing SOBs like him try to overthrow the Constitution of the United Sates. The first amendment protects us from sick people like that hate filled piece of dung. No laws respecting religion shall be made, period.
We do NOT use the bible as our rule of morality, we have law makers that do that but even now they’re trying to do something that goes against the Constitution.
I have NO RESPECT for bigots like him and that makes me happy to not be associated with hate mongers the way that guy does.
He is still thinking that all brains are created exactly the same-they are not.
