See What You’ve Done Now? You’ve Made Ted Cruz Angry

Earlier today we saw this piece in the Dallas Morning News that observed how Sen. Ted Cruz had taken a more measured tone than his Republican presidential rivals on the case of Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk still refusing to obey the law and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

But that was before Davis was held in contempt and jailed by a federal judge this morning. And now Cruz seems to be madder than his dad Rafael Cruz always seems to be. Cruz’s statement following the contempt finding:

Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America.

No, Sen. Cruz, Davis was held in contempt and jailed not for her faith, but for her refusal to obey multiple court orders telling her to do, you know, the job she’s collecting a paycheck to do. A paycheck, by the way, that doesn’t bounce thanks to the taxes paid by some of the same people Davis is discriminating against.

But anyway, Cruz continued:

Those who are persecuting Kim Davis believe that Christians should not serve in public office. That is the consequence of their position. Or, if Christians do serve in pubic office, they must disregard their religious faith–or be sent to jail.

Actually, there are many, many county clerks who are Christian in Cruz’s home state of Texas, in Kentucky and in the other 48 states, who are complying with court rulings on marriage. There was, for example, the Denton County clerk who said she doesn’t agree with same-sex marriage, but that she still has a job to do and an oath to serve everyone to uphold.

It’s this simple, Sen. Cruz: None of us gets to pick and choose which one of our job duties we’d like to do. We either have to do what the job requires us to do or find another job. If Davis, or any other county clerk, can’t perform their job duties, well, you know the answer.

You can read Cruz’s full statement on Davis here.

This is inaccurate; employers are required to make reasonable accommodations for religion, which may occasionally conflict.

Contrariwise, if accommodating any religious objections would cause undue burden to the employer, then the employee must indeed do what the job requires or find another job.

And nohow, accommodations that effect a religious establishment are an undue burden upon a state employer.

Lets shut down the government. The country ran fine when it did on previous occasions.

Murder is never good whether it is a mother killing children because God told her to or for just plain grins.

Well the oath she took was before an imperial judiciary made a strange ruling.

What do we do about conscientious objectors in case of war.

Fact of the matter is that some things are just plain wrong regardless of what a sitting body of judges think or a majority thinks. Some cases they are both wrong.

Amazed - what would you think of a vegan clerk at Walmart that refused to sell you a hunting license, or to ring up your t-bone steaks? What of a Muslim at the license bureau that refused to issue driver’s licenses to women? A Southern Baptist cashier at HEB that wouldn’t sell you a six-pack of Keystone Light?

No, Amused, it’s not an “imperial judiciary.” Please return to the 5th Grade and learn some civics.

You are referring to the Supreme Court of the United States.

That’s the top court and what they rule is the rule, right? The buck literally stops with the Supreme Court.

What’s “imperial” about the Supreme Court? Oh, I’m sure, Amazed, that you are horribly upset with the “imperial decision” in the Hobby Lobby case.

Am I right, or am I right?

Please, somebody call a whaaaaaaambulance for Amazed or recommend a civics tutor.

I don’t think Ted Cruz turned into a full-fledged theocrat overnight, but he sure has revealed his true colors recently. Cruz might just be delusional enough to think that his fellow theocratic wingnuts will be enough to swing the election for him. Fortunately for us, rational voters will keep Cruz in the basement where he belongs.

I forgot to mention that in Numbers 30:3 it is also a sin to make an oath and break it which is exactly what Kim Davis has done.

  • Beverly Kurtin says:

Cruz is a religous bigot from the word go. His addled old man still thinks that this is a Christian nation; it isn’t it is a secular nation and always will be.
As the judge said, you cannot pick and choose what elelments of your job you will perform. You do NOT have the right to swear an oath and then decide to not live up to what you have sworn. The BIBLE states in Numbers that if you swear an oath PERFORM IT, by not doing it, she is sinning.
But getting back to Cruz…he has never proven that he is an American citizen!
When he was born BOTH of his parents were Canadian citizens which made HIM a Canadian. He drnounced his Canadian citizenship but NEVER had dual citizenship! Why is he running for our president and why is he a senator?
If Congress does not defund Planned Parenthood, then he will once again try to shut down the government and once again the miserable piece of bull scat will try to blame President obama for the shut down. What a piece of garbage he is.
Oh, suppose that I decided to go out and murder some gay people. When I went to trial I said that I did it under the authority of God, do you think for an instant that boat would float?

Piss off Cruz! Why don’t you stop with the religious puke that seems to flow so easily from your mouth and do your job!
