TFN’s Kathy Miller to Texas AG Ken Paxton: Obey the Law of the Land

The Austin American-Statesman has posted a short video of TFN President Kathy Miller calling on Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to stop obstructing the Supreme Court’s ruling on the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples. Kathy was speaking at a press conference on Monday at the Texas Capitol. She spoke along with leaders from the Human Rights Campaign, Equality Texas, and the ACLU of Texas as well as plaintiffs in the federal and Texas marriage court cases.

    Paxton has, as too many Christians, broken his oath of office and should be arrested by federal marshals and spend a few years in prison.

    It still boggles my brain that people cannot and will not understand that the Court did NOT make a new law. They ENFORCED a 147 year-old Amendment to the Constitution. The 14th reads: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
    The states have been denying equal legal rights by prohibiting same-sex marriage.
    It has been 147 years that LGBT people have been denied equal rights.

    It is a sad day when a U.S. Supreme Court decision can be ignored by petty politicians in a state. It sets a bad precedent that should concern all Americans.

        That is the argument that I am hearing. I don’t agree with it. The Supreme court ruled and that settles as far as I am concerned. Now I am hearing stupid talk of secession again.

      Tell me ONE thing that the president has done that is against the Constitution. Just ONE thing. You can’t because what you are doing is echoing the far “right’s” hateful sayings.

      It is clear that like most people who hate the president you don’t like us having a black president. Live with it.
