Full CSCOPE Debate Now Online

If you missed last Saturday’s CSCOPE debate between State Board of Education vice chair Thomas Ratliff, R-Mt. Pleasant, and state Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, here it is in its entirety.

On one side, you had an SBOE member who showed up with facts. On the other, you had an ambitious politician running for higher office who came armed with red meat for the paranoid right. But don’t take our word for it, watch the whole thing for yourself.

And finally, we’ll point out that this video is unedited. We feel the need to stress this because, given the history of this “controversy,” it’s likely that the CSCOPE opponents will accuse us of using Islamic camera angles, or some other crazy thing.

Thanks for the post. There are many that could not attend or watch the streaming video- now they can participate in this discussion.

@Not Relevant. My feelings exactly. Even w/ headphones it’s difficult to understand them. I have a congenital hearing disability and I would rather read a transcript captioning rather than guess.

  • not relevant says:

Would be nice if there was a transcript, for those of us in situations where hearing the audio of a video is difficult.

Aside from content, there was something interesting I noticed. Look at the podiums. Ratliff is a smaller man than Patrick. Ratliff’s podium is taller, wider, darker, and not as brightly lighted. It diminishes the presence of Ratliff on the stage.

Content - Much of Patrick’s commentary reminded me of the movie Idiocracy.

  • Thank you, TFN, for posting this full CSCOPE Debate video. You have performed a public service.

  • Jill vanVoorhis says:

As someone raised by a Professor of speech and coach of the debate team, I am embarrassed for Dan Patrick. However, as someone else pointed out, if I had been raised by a theatre coach, I would be very impressed. He’s quite good!

  • Michelle Michon says:

Not everyone has a chance to be at the meeting. This is a BIG State. Thanks to TFN for posting this video. I hear allot of ignorant cheering for Dan Patrick. Shame on those Texans who have this idolatry of insanity. They are ill informed and this needs to change.

  • Joe Lapp says:

I saw snippets. Unfortunately, I think theater wins more audience than intellect. Humans are simple as a group.

  • Thanks for posting. I’ve been looking for this. Shared!
