Texas Eagle Forum: Struggling Families = Wild Animals

From Texas Eagle Forum’s February newsletter:

Lesson in Irony
The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people. Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us “Please Do Not Feed the Animals.” Their stated reason for the policy is because “the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.”

This outrageous comparison has been making the rounds in right-wing circles for years now. Apparently, no one at Texas Eagle Forum realizes how smug and offensive it must sound to struggling families trying to put food on the table for their children. Or maybe they do but don’t care.

The group calls itself a leader in the “pro-family movement.” Now, that’s a real lesson in irony.

Linda. I don’t know why not. Via her organization, she insulted my mom and dad first. They were what is now called the working poor. Working 40+ hours and poor as church mice—Christians just like these Eagle Twerps claim to be. I think Jesus knows who the real animals are here. Maybe he’ll yank their leish one of these days.

Charles, there is no need to make a sexist and rather violent remark about Phyllis Schafly’s anatomy. I hate her views with a passion, but let’s not sink to their level by saying things that are insulting and violent.

  • My greatest desire is to yank those heartless people and toss them into the situation that people who use “food stamps” live in.
My life’ savings were destroyed thanks to Wall St. and the banks and now I live on less than $20,000 a year. I don’t get food stamps and don’t need ’em. I’d LOVE to see some of those hot shots live for three months on what I get. That’d be fun.

My family is struggling now in this bad economy, and I goofed off like a common animal by working 40 hrs at my regular job last week plus 28 hours of overtime. I am feeling just really dependent right now—like on my paycheck.

Phyllis can shove it up her dried out old…for all I care.

Coragyps ; No they do not. The lecture is always the same. Minority member pulls up in Cadillac to get their food stamps.
There is an agenda of ignorance at play and class hatred at play.
Perhaps The eagle forum should check what percentage hunger assistance plays in the Fedral Budget . Its a very very small percentage…Oops, I’m talking about reality again.

I’m betting that the Eagle Forum folks (and their eager audiences) simply don’t think.

  • Coragyps says:

Bastards. I’m betting that the Eagle Forum folks don’t think a single person of Western European descent gets food stamps, either.
