Tired of seeing far-right extremists on the State Board of Education censor and whitewash what public schools teach Texas kids? You can help us do something about it this week.
Join concerned parents, educators, businesspeople and other Texans at the “Don’t White-Out Our History” rally at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, in front of the Texas Education Agency. The TEA building is located at 17th and Congress just north of the Capitol in Austin.
The state board will be hearing public testimony on proposed new social studies curriculum standards inside the TEA building that day. Help us send a message: stop playing politics with the education of Texas schoolchildren. Teachers and scholars should be deciding what to teach in our students classrooms, not politicians promoting personal biases and agendas.
We realize it’s a workday. We know it might be difficult to make it to the rally. But the education of nearly 5 million Texas schoolchildren is on the line this week. So take a late lunch. Come join us. Tell lawmakers that it’s time to rein in a state board that is holding Texas and our students back in the race to the future.
Click here for more information about the rally and to let us know you’re coming.

I would like to see the Catholic, mainline protestant, Jewish, and assorted other clergy show up IN FORCE at this rally and be vocal to the news media and any state legislators who might be there gathering opinions. This is Berlin 1932 in Austin on Wednesday. A lot of you guys were silent back in 1932, and look what happened. The following phrase really is still true:
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke)
Please help. Please show up and let the people of Texas know that a large part of the religious community in Texas is opposed to what the radical right members of the Texas SBOE are trying to do.

There’s nothing I’d love to do more than attend but have you ever tried to rent a car that has hand controls and room enough for a wheelchair?
Charles, you’re right; nobody thought that the German government was REALLY going to go through with its threats. I lost 47 relatives in the Holocaust which is why my hackles stand at attention when morons can control what our children can or cannot learn.

Charles and Beverly. You are both wrong. They are not radical right. They are simply right. As in correct. The leftists have been trying to control what children can and cannot learn for decades. It is they who are trying to censure the truth and rewrite history, not the right. So, Beverly, who are the morons of which you speak?
What I would like to know, is why I keep hearing Marxist liberals comparing good American conservative to Nazi, when so many of the policies that Nazi Germany put in place are the same things that the leftists are trying to do now.

Just a quick observation as a South Austin Democrat-while I have problems with our bail outs of certain corporations, linking to “NoGovernmentBailouts.com” which is funded by Gov. Perry’s campaign (Political advertisement paid for by Texans for Rick Perry) seems a bit odd!

“so many of the policies that Nazi Germany put in place are the same things that the leftists are trying to do now.”
Name some.

Ben,
Everything the Nazis did to Austria after Austria made the mistake of putting the Nazis in control. If I give you specifics, you will have been told. Go study it for yourself and you might learn.
Charles,
The question was rhetorical as it is the leftists who are trying to control what children can and can’t learn.

No, Rich, you made the claim, so you back it up. Or realize you made a ridiculous comparison and move on.

Not Rich, txras. Hard to keep the wingnuts straight.

Txras, no it is Texas conservatives who do not want children to know about contraception. Remember, here in TX, it is ABSTINENCE ONLY. And we’ve seen the results of how successful THAT strategy has been!
